Air Quality in Kuala Lumpur
Introduction
Look up at sky whenever you are in Kuala Lumpur, and at times you could not see the clear blue sky. The enormous Kl tower is always covered with a thin sheer layer of smoke. Many people would refer that as smog, but in fact it is haze.
Air pollution is an issue of great concern for all of us. It impacts us on many areas such as our health conditions, the environment, food product that we intake, the air quality that we breathe etc.
In many countries, its air quality level will often deteriorate as the economy improves. The reason for this could be due to increased industrial and car activities. From the beginning of 19th century, the city London in United Kingdom started recording its air pollutant index. The main cause for polluted air during that period of time was due to Industrial revolution because it allowed many factories to operate without the right air circulation causing hazardous air to be produced. In the 20th century, the air pollution was at its peak in London.
Other examples :
In 2012, World Health Organisation reports that around 7 billion people died due to air quality. This also means, in every 8 death in a minute, there is 1 person dying due to exposure of air quality.
